1st SERGEANT
ELMER J. BURR
1st Sergeant Elmer J. Burr was fatally wounded
December 24, 1942 on the island of New Guinea.
Burr covered an enemy grenade with his body to
save his commanding offider and others.
He died December 25 Christmas Day 1942.
The memorial is located at Menasha's Isle of Valor, accessible from westbound Keys Street, between Cleveland Street (to the west) and Park Street (to the east), directly behind the Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Building (now home to the Menasha Historical Society), at or near 640 Keys Street, Menasha, Wisconsin 54952.
