Havilah Babcock House

Neenah, Winnegabo County, Wisconsin

The house is located at 537 East Wisconsin Avenue, just east of the intersection of Pine Street and Wisconsin Avenue, Neenah, Wisconsin 54956.

This home is an example of the Queen Anne style. The house was built in 1883, with electricity. Havilah Babcock was in the dry goods business with J. Alfred Kimberley and later became a founder of Kimberly-Clark Corporation. Yeah, they had a few bucks to toss around!

Restoration of the windows (graciously provided by LindaAdams, great-grand-granddaughter of Havilah Babcock)

I had to laugh when I saw this photo. I was there at the house about a month after you took this photo, and we must have stood in the same place. They're nearly identical, right down to the ladder on the side.

The house was built by my great-great-grandfather, and is still cared for by the family. The roof replacement in your photo is part of some of the work they've been doing on the house. There are some photos of the restoration of the stained glass doors inside over here: http://www.conradschmitt.com/portfolio/projects/?projectid=201

I hope you're doing better and keep petting those cats and dogs!

Linda, Thank you so much for sharing! I'm looking forward to winter -- I think the house will look amazing with snow :)
