Take a Peek!
In 2005, "Friends of the Spirit Double Arch Bridge" and the Price County Historical Society began a project to honor and preserve the Emil Johnson Double Arch Stone Bridge, which was being replaced by a more modern structure. They planned to take apart and then rebuild the bridge in a new location, so that others could continue to enjoy its historic presence.

The three-fourths size replica before you was constructed as a three-dimensional puzzle. To keep all the pieces of the original bridge in order, volunteers whitewashed and numbered each stone before it was taken apart.
1
Demolition
Modern equipment was used to carefully remove and relocate the original boulders. These hefty pieces were moved from their original location over the Spirit River to their new home at Spirit Memorial Park just a short distance away.
2
Preparation
Before the replica could be constructed, volunteers and members of the "Friends of the Spirit Double Arch Bridge" worked with contractors to clear ground and lay a cement foundation for the replica. Each original boulder was power washed before being placed.
3
Reconstruction
Throughout 2006, the bridge replica was built in what is now Spirit Memorial Park. Local architects, stone masons, and other Spirit volunteers pieced together the replica as closely as possible to that of the early stone masons.
