Woodland
Forests play an important role in the environment by cleaning the air of pollutants, reducing soil erosion, providing windbreaks for homes, and providing food and shelter for many plants and animals. They also help moderate the climate by holding warm air into cool nights and cool air into warm days.
The marker is at the sixth stop on the three-mile Horicon National Wildlife Refuge Auto Tour & Trails tour loop. The entrance to the Horicon National Wildlife Refuge | Tempike Auto Tour is located on eastbound Wisconsin Highway 49, about three miles east of the Wisconsin Highway 151 exit, Waupun, Wisconsin 53963.

"Horicon" -- a Mohican word meaning pure, clean water.

A little further up the road from the marker -- beautiful!
