In Memory of
Harold Hettrick
"The River Provideth"
Harold D. Hettrick, 2/2/27-2/1/04, was born and raised near the Mississippi River in Cochrane, WI. He was a WWII veteran, a UW-Madison graduate and a 32 year conservation warden. Harold's love for the land, river and all natural resources paved the way for his enduring respect for all of God's creations and the protection it required. Harold spent the better part of his 32 years of retirement here on the Mississippi at Ferryville hunting, fishing, enjoying the wonders of nature, and most of all, the people along the river. Hettrick's favorite saying was "the river provideth". It not only provided food for the body, but also for the mind and soul. This was Harold's "paradise" on earth.

Hettrick's ashes were spread over his beloved river. The following is part of a eulogy written by Dick Turpin, a Nebraska warden, twenty-five years ago. It was again read at Harold D. Hettrick's funeral.

". . . So remember "old friend" (sic) if you're down by the slough and the wind puts something in your eye, it may just be a little piece of me, that touched you as life goes by."
