THE COBBLESTONE
Built in 1848 by Ahira Rockwell Hinkley first settler in Eagle Township, who came here in 1836. This house is one of the best examples of cobblestone work in Wisconsin. To insure uniformity in size, the stones were dropped through a hole in a board. The structure is architecturally unique in having no corner slabs, or quoins.
The marker is located on eastbound Wisconsin Route 59, north of its intersection with Oak Ridge Road, at W354 S7910 State Hwy 59, Eagle, Wisconsin 53119.

NOTE: The marker is located at a private residence; but there is parking and easy access to this marker at the foot of a long driveway.

Eagle Historical Society: The Cobblestone
Includes photos of the Hinkley family.

This marker and location are included in the Wisconsin Registered Landmarks program (1964-1973).
